In 2017 the Google Play team conducted a retail space audit to asses their availability across key markets and retailers. The results validated their cause for concern with an 88% availability metric.
In light of this, Google Play set about to formalize the retail excellence initiative to improve store execution and maximize sales potential. To do this they created a system to track brand execution at retail and facilitate actions to fix roots causes of poor availability and brand presence.
